4 Incredible Ways Popsicles Are Changing the Planet for the Better

Popsicles are a treat that many people love across the globe.

There’s a flavor to suit every taste bud.

I remember those hot, summer days when you could hear the ice cream truck coming.

They used to sell push-pops, Mississippi Mud – red, white, and blue popsicles.

Those were my favorites.

Although I am fond of those memories, I don’t miss how unhealthy those popsicles were.

Do you know what’s in most popsicles?

Well, if you don’t you’ve come to the right place.

Let’s look at the Mississippi Mud popsicle.  It contains high fructose corn syrup, sugar, and corn syrup.  During my research I discovered that it has over 50 ingredients, but these stood out the most.

These ingredients have been linked to:

·       Diabetes

·       Cancer

·       Obesity

·       Metabolic dysregulation

·       Endocrine disruption

Who knew that impending death could taste so good?!

Yes, I’m being sarcastic…but this is the reality.

Your loved ones consume popsicles because they enjoy them, and they are unknowingly putting their health at risk…

But this doesn’t mean that they can never eat a popsicle again.

Thankfully, there are brands that care about your health and the planet we all live in.

Last year, I was looking for a healthy popsicle and I stumbled across Good Pop which is a company that prides themselves on making treats that are free of artificial sweeteners.

Some of their products brought back great childhood memories without the possibility of a heart attack.  My favorite items from Good Pop are:

·      Orange Cherry Grape

·      Cherry n’ Lemonade

·      Mango

Initially, Good Pop grabbed my attention with their passion for providing people a healthier alternative to unhealthy popsicles…but I was intrigued when I read about their mission for the planet.  Here’s what they had to say and 4 ways these popsicles are changing the planet for the better:

1.     Certified B Corp

“As a Certified B Corp, we strive to make the world a better place throughout all aspects of our business: across product, people and planet.

Being a B Corp means going above and beyond for our employees and treating every person involved in Good Pop with respect – from our suppliers all the way to our customers.

It means using our products as a force for good, and it’s why we created the Pledge Good Foundation to give back to our communities. It means doing better for our environment by using recyclable materials and always striving to do more.

And it means being transparent about our progress – check out our B Corp Report and see how we stack up.”

2.     Sourcing

“Our ingredients do more good! Every ingredient is USDA Organic or Non-GMO Project Verified and thoughtfully sourced for the highest quality.

And quality means more than just peak season deliciousness—we also ensure that the people who grow our ingredients are treated and paid fairly.

The quality of the ingredients we use isn’t just about how they’re grown but who is growing them and how they are treated.

That’s why we are committed to fair trade agreements with all of our ingredient suppliers. GoodPop supports fair wages for our farmers, growers and their communities, creating positive impact through the entirety of our supply chain.”

3.     Sustainability

“The packaged food industry is known, well, for using a lot of packaging. At Good Pop, we use recyclable materials, but we want to do better.

That’s why our products are Plastic Neutral Certified through 4ocean.

As we continue to find better solutions to reduce our plastic use, 4ocean will clean up 1lb of plastic from the oceans and waterways for every 1lb of plastic we use.

We ship our online orders using recyclable cardboard and biodegradable insulation. Pretty cool right! The insulation that keeps our treats frozen from the warehouse to your home is Green Cell Foam. Made from US-grown corn, Green Cell Farm is certified compostable and can even be dissolved in a sink for safe and easy disposal.”

4.     Community

“Doing good together is just more fun, don’t you think? We believe that one small act of kindness can create a big impact.

We invite you join us every year on Good Deeds Day to volunteer and kick off the year with kindness. Or spread everyday good by taking the Pledge Good Challenge, pledging to do a good deed – big or small!”

There are companies who don’t care about their employees, the ingredients they use, their packaging materials, or doing volunteer work…but Good Pop has a good heart, and they care about others.  This makes for a guilt free purchase.

With every dollar you spend you are contributing to making this world a better place.  It reminds me of the song by Michael Jackson, “Heal the World.”

While you certainly can’t help everyone you can feel relieved that you did your part by purchasing a delicious popsicle.
