Essential Oils for Mental Health: Grab Essential Oils to Realign

Essential oils are a life-changer and have an array of properties.  There’s an essential oil for everything.  Whether you are dealing with illness, needing more energy, wanting to lose weight, and/or simply love the aroma essential oils can benefit everyone.  They are plant essences that can be found in the roots, the seeds, the bark and flowers.  They are highly concentrated and extremely potent.

These gems in a bottle have been utilized since the beginning of time as an ancient healing modality.  In modern times you can find a bottle in people’s homes all over the world and in hospitals.  Studies have shown how certain essential oils have the ability to relieve psychological and physical symptoms linked to certain mental illness.

There are various reasons for essential oils and their capacity to aid in the mental healing process.  Essential oils contain terpenes, which are highly aromatic compounds.  They are a class of hydrocarbons widely used in plants.  Terpenes have the ability to aid in the anti-inflammatory process, pain relief, antibacterial health, and mental health.

Common terpenes found in essential oils are monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes.  Monoterpenes are responsible for boosting and elevating mood.  Sesquiterpenes are responsible for grounding and balancing emotions.  Have you ever smelled something that instantly changed your mood?  The inhalation of fragrances highly affect brain function.

We have an olfactory bulb and when we smell essential oils or aromatic compounds the smell sends a signal to the brain.  Essential oils have this incredible ability to surpass the blood-brain barrier to interact with receptors in the central nervous system.  Smell has a profound effect on overall mood and there are essential oils that can greatly improve your mental health.  Here are 5 of my favorite essential oils for encouraging homeostasis or balance within the body:

Lavender

Lavender is excellent for those who experience depression.  Depression is prevalent in today’s society and having Lavender in your home and with you throughout the day can bring you calmness.  This essential oil is known for relaxation, for reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression.
Put 2-4 drops on the bottoms of the feet before bed or diffuse 4-6 drops in your aromatic diffuser.  One of my favorite ways to incorporate this essential oil to promote a positive mood is in chocolate.  If you’re looking for how chocolate reduces stress and enhances mood you can check out my Chocolate Reduces Stress blog article.

Wild Orange

Wild Orange not only smells exceptionally amazing, but it boosts creativity and a sense of possibility.  This is a great essential oil to have when dealing with mood imbalances or the unwillingness to live.  It reminds you that you have something to live for and gives you that push to succeed at your goals.  I highly recommend putting 1-2 drops of this in your water.

I have a company that I use and in full transparency I do get a commission when you sign up.  This is a company where I can confidently say that you can ingest these oils.  I cannot safely say that about other companies.  If any essential oils have an External Use Only on the bottle then I don’t recommend ingesting them or even putting them on the skin.

Frankincense

Frankincense always reminds me of the three wise men in the Helios Biblios.  The Helios Biblios is the Sun Book, The Book of Astrology, in modern times known as the Bible.  Frankincense should be rubbed on the third eye and back of neck from what Spirit is telling me.  You can also wash your feet with it or put drops of it on the bottoms of your feet as Yahushua had done to him in the Bible.  This helps with neurological disorders and nervous system dysfunction.  If you’re feeling nervous or dealing with a nervous system related mental health issue then Frankincense will be your best friend.  Drinking it in water makes you feel joyous, comfortable, and calm.

Vetiver

This essential oil is considered the “tranquilizer” because of its ability to knock you out and put you to sleep.  It calms all of the senses and promotes mental and emotional balance.  Vetiver is best used in the diffuser and on the bottoms of the feet.  It has a syrup and sap smell.  It’s woodsy and makes you feel as though you’re having a relaxing day in the beautiful woods with your favorite latte or cup of tea.  This was my favorite essential oil for years.

Blue Tansy

This essential oil must be used with a carrier oil.  A carrier oil can be coconut oil, jojoba, and/or almond oil.  I recommend it to my clients to be used when they meditate.  It’s great for igniting that spiritual connection, encouraging a sense of wonder, and awe.  It makes all of your worries go away.  You can diffuse this without the carrier oil and it makes a great diffuser combo with Wild Orange and Lavender.  Spirit is saying some of you can also use this in conjunction with Juniper Berry to help open your third eye.

Essential oils have helped millions of people across the globe with their innate abilities and ancient plant wisdom.  They are truly a necessity and miracles in a bottle.  I’ve seen many people go from having severe anxiety to being peaceful.  I’ve seen people have terrible insomnia to finally having a good night’s sleep.  You owe it to yourself to incorporate these into your everyday life and support your mental health.
