How To Manage Your Time As A Mom

Whether you are a stay–at-home mom or a working mom managing your time can be difficult.  You are not only taking care of yourself, you are taking care of others.  When you do not have good time management you can feel stressed, overwhelmed, and extremely anxious.  There is a sense of not feeling balanced and not at peace.

As a mom many people are demanding of your time.  If you are married with children then your husband and your children require your time.  If you are not married, but have children then children require your time.  Add working on top of this, well many people need you.  However you need yourself as well.  Managing your time is a form of self care so you can visibly see where you can find time for yourself and others.

When you are able to manage your time you can feel clear-headed and feel a sense of accomplishment.  Everything you set out to do that day you were able to implement because you planned ahead of time.  Having a solid organizational routine that you can implement on a daily basis will allow you to manage your time better.  What can you do to manage your time?

Brain Dump

As a busy mom I am sure your brains are filled with meetings, activities, children’s schedules and your own schedules.  Having all of these thoughts wrecking your brain can cause imbalance and create headache.  To avoid the headache it is best to write all of your thoughts down.  First do a brain dump.  Don’t try to organize the thoughts.  Simply dump the thoughts.  I love to dump my thoughts in a notebook. Dumping the thoughts get the thoughts out of your head and onto paper.  This is the beginning of mental clarity.

Organize

Take all of those thoughts and organize them based on priority.  Ask yourself, “What do I need to get accomplished first?”  Answer that question and create a numbered list in that same notebook.  Maybe you need to organize your meetings.  Maybe you need to organize the children’s activities so you don’t forget.  Maybe you need to organize meal prep If you need help with meal prep, grab your FREE copy of the “3-Day Meal Plan for Stressed and Overworked Moms” here.  Maybe you need to organize everyone’s appointments.

Plan

Once you have jotted down your list of priorities organize them by date and time in a planner.  Having a planner handy on your desk at home, at work, and/or in your handbag is like having your brain with you at all times.  If you forget anything you no longer have to beat yourself up.  Simply pull out your planner and look at the activities you have scheduled.  Cross off your plans as you accomplish them throughout the day.

Implementation

Now that you have a solid organizational method that will allow you to live a stress free life all that is left is the implementation component.  Implementation is not hard, but it takes determination and discipline.  Always remember how you felt before when you did not have an organizational routine.  This very thought will keep you from going backwards.

You are not alone in feeling as if your brain is cluttered.  You want to check in with yourself on a daily basis to see if your brain is cluttered and remember to dump it all out.  Dumping does not have to be organized and concise.  It just has to be visual.  Remember to write it all down.  I have the perfect notebook for you to do that HERE.  One page is for writing; the other is for brainstorming, vision boards, timelines, drawing, and more.  This will help you see what you need to organize.

Organize all of your thoughts to provide you with more clarity and balance.  The last thing you want to be feeling, as a mom is stress.  You have enough going on so let your routine be solid and consistent.  Always strategically plan ahead of time, about one week ahead.  Let this be your first step and your goal.  This will eliminate the angst that may come if you felt disorganized.  Be ahead of schedule.  Lastly, implement all of your activities, meetings, appointments, meal prep, ideas, plans, self-care, and more.  This part takes consistent action.  Remember to find time for yourself in the process of helping others.
