How To Turn Excuses Into Action (Why You’re Not Reaching Your Health Goals)

Nowhere in the history of having excuses has ANYONE grown or reached any goal that they have set for themselves.  Excuses are known for holding SOOOOO many people back.  Some people don’t even know that they have them.  This is where self-awareness comes in and doing some “getting to the root work” can truly be beneficial.  In my years of being a holistic health coach and working in the medical field I have come across people who made excuses.  Honestly when I heard their excuses when it came to their health it went in one ear and out of the other because I knew they could achieve them, but they BLOCKED themselves.

This is self-sabotage at its finest.  You see years back when I had a horrible food addiction I made every excuse why that food addiction was healthy and why I should continue.  My food addiction was eating two jars of peanut butter a day, one jar of almond butter, 12 fruit and nut bars, and 60 medjool dates.  I ate these on different days in a rotation.  I wanted to continue eating these foods so I started to put mulberries and blueberries in the almond butter because in my mind that made it “healthier”.

This food addiction made me gain 46 lbs. and it all stemmed from stress.  This addiction went from jars of peanut butter to 8 slices of cheesecake a day, leptin resistance, and SOOOOO many health issues.  I became very, very sick because of my EXCUSE.  I became attached to food because I was really stressed.  Instead of dealing with the stress I turned to overeating, which then created health decline.

Listen your excuses you are making can cost you your health.  While you may feel you are protecting yourself by holding on to what you may THINK is helping you, well you’re not.  I totally get how it feels to be so attached to food, limiting beliefs, traumas, and more, BUT you are self-sabotaging by allowing something to stop your progress because you feel comfortable where you are.

As a health coach these are some of the most common excuses that I hear...

“I don’t have time to meal prep.”

“I don’t want to eat plant-based”.

“I don’t have enough money to invest in my health.”

“I am not ready.”

“Let me finish up what’s in my fridge before I start.”

I have heard it all.  The bad news is that some people are choosing to be stuck, but the good news is that some of you want solutions and are super antsy to take action.  You’re sick and tired of not achieving success when it comes to your health goals.  Whether it is losing weight, getting rid of stress, being consistent in preparing your meals, exercising, what have you, you’re ready.  Guess what?  You don’t need to know EVERYTHING to be ready.  You simply have to be willing to say YES to you.  One YES to you is an act of self-love.  It is you giving yourself permission to thrive and be well.

Are you ready to turn those excuses into action and implement them today?  Here are actionable affirmations that you can say and do to help you achieve your goals right now:

“I will make time to meal prep and need assistance in doing so because it will keep me from eating junk food” - If you are a professional or entrepreneurial woman then you are most likely busy with meetings.  It can be very easy to grab those cookies or that sugary snack in-between.  Prepping meals ahead of time can prevent this.  If you have no clue how to meal prep effectively then reach out to me and grab my FREE Stress Less Meal Prep Guide while you’re at it.

“Plants are not just leaves and greens.  Plants are beans, nuts, seeds, fruits, and veggies.  I will incorporate more of this into my diet to get the nutrients that the body needs” – When most people hear “plant-based” they automatically think vegan and bland food.  This is far from the truth.  The goal is to add more plant-based foods into your diet so your body can function optimally.  When you eat more plants loaded with nutrients the body can absorb those nutrients, digest better, extract waste more efficiently, boost your mood, and prevent illness in the process.

“I realize that my health is priceless and that if I put my health last my quality of life will not be so great.  If I get sick this will cost way more than investing in a health professional now” – You not investing in your health is so years ago.  At this point we as a people should make the connection between poor nutrition poor quality of health and optimal nutrition, better quality of health.  I have put my health on the backburner before.  This caused me to be severely anemic, liver to be damaged, and my kidneys not being able to flush properly.  Oh did I have all the time in the world to lie down and invest a BUNCH of funds into my health.  I went from living life to trying to save my life.  A health coach is less expensive then the hospital.

“Being ready is an illusion.  What I really want to say is, “I don’t trust myself.  However maybe I can talk to someone and share my worries so that I can start taking care of my health today.” - Limiting beliefs can really make you feel as though there is a certain time that you should start.  I affirm that time doesn’t exist and it is your decision that will change your life, but limiting beliefs can hold you back.  You may be REALLY thinking that because you failed before you will fail again.  Again, getting to the root as to why you failed at your goals is crucial here.  Working with someone who can help you surpass your barriers will allow you to empower yourself to get rid of those beliefs and make changes.

“Instead of finishing the food in my fridge I am going to throw out all of the junk food because I realize this is self-sabotage and food addiction at its finest.  Once I throw out all of the junk I will see if someone can help me grocery shop for healthier food items” – If you throw the food out you won’t be tempted to eat it.  When you don’t buy the junk you are less likely to eat it.  Working with someone who can help you help yourself get rid of food addiction and lay down the foundational basics of nutrition can truly help you.

Your health success is completely up to you, but the excuses won’t help.  I hope you take action today because your self-love decision is what is going to propel you forward.  Make the time to meal prep because you will feel less stressed.  Eat foods that nourish your body and help your mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health.  When it comes to spending your funds you have to make your health a priority.  You live in your body.  Focus on quality of life, and put material items secondary.  What are those items without you enjoying them?  That is for you to answer.  You will never be ready if you have excuses so when you make a definite decision to make changes, but don’t know how then reach out to a health professional.  START HERE...When tempted to eat junk food you have to ask yourself why you crave it and how is it helping your overall health.  Get to the root to break that emotional tie.
