How Can Melons Benefit Your Health?

It would make my heart SO amazingly happy to try all varieties of melons.  Melons are my absolute favorite and surprisingly there are 30 varieties of them.  Cantaloupe, honeydew melon, and watermelon are three of my favorite melons.  They are extremely hydrating and amazing for the skin.  Melons contain mostly water and I have to say they are a magical fruit.  I mean what contains mostly water, about 90% water, and tastes sweet and delicious?!  This beautiful creation that the Creator left us with on earth is phenomenal.  Melons not only taste wonderful, they have an array of health benefits.

As briefly mentioned, melons are excellent for the skin.  The skin is the largest organ on the body and consists of tiny pores throughout.  Those tiny pores absorb pretty much everything.  Nowadays the body has the potential to be attacked by airborne pathogens and environmental toxins, which increase risk of free radical damage and oxidative stress.  By eating melons, rich in water, rich in vitamins and minerals, the cells can receive oxygen.  When the cells get oxygen one can decrease their risk of oxidative stress and reactive oxygen species, which lead to cancer.

Oxygenated cells reverse the aging process.  This is why when people drink water and eat these hydrating foods their skin is smooth and they have a fluorescent glow.  They are literally glowing from the inside out.  I absolutely love the fact that one can eat melons and not have to count the calories or worry about sugar spikes.  There are SO many benefits found in different kinds of melons, but we will stick to these three melons below:

Cantaloupe

Cantaloupe contains fiber, which creates a smooth running digestive tract, and promotes consistent elimination of toxic waste through bowel movements.  Cantaloupe helps prevent dehydration with its high water content and has Vitamin C to boost immunity.  Now is the perfect time to have cantaloupe to protect against disorders of the immune system and to prevent a breakdown.  It has an antioxidant called zeaxanthin.  Zeaxanthin filters out harmful blue light rays and prevents macular degeneration.  If you are having eye problems then you definitely want to incorporate cantaloupe into your diet.  It has beta carotene, folate, and potassium to provide energy to the body and reduce risk of anemia and moodiness.  Lots of times when the body is low energy there is an imbalance in mood as well.

Honeydew Melon

When I had endometriosis I found that honeydew melon helped soothe any pain or discomfort I was experiencing.  I find that Honeydew melon are a little more sweet than cantaloupe and I actually want to eat some right now as I am writing this.  They improve blood sugar levels because they are fiber rich.  It is an excellent melon to eat to promote bone health.  It has folate, vitamin K, and magnesium to aid in bone health.  Honeydew promotes weight loss so eating a bowl of this for breakfast, lunch, or dessert can make a difference in your weight.  It has a high water content, which makes you full and eliminate in a short period of time.  Honeydew increases satiety so you won’t be hungry after eating it.  It has the ability to curb appetite and ensure proper digestion.

Watermelon

To find a seeded, organic, watermelon is difficult these days.  You want to make sure watermelons have seeds.  Everything that grows comes from a root or a seed.  Watermelons are the sweetest variety of melon.  They are so juicy and sweet.  I love them so much haha.  This post is setting my clairgustance on fire.  I can taste it through these delicious words as my fingers penetrate these keys on the keyboard.  Yum, yum, yum!   Watermelon contains lycopene, a carotenoid with great antioxidant capacity to fight off cancer and breathing issues.  Lycopene gives this beautiful melon its rich, red color.  Watermelon reduces risk of cardiovascular disease type II diabetes, and metabolic diseases.  It promotes weight management and weight loss.  It also helps with PMS in women and mood disorders.

You can either eat melons separately or altogether.  I try my best to eat melons every single day.  I love to eat them for lunch.  You can do different things with melon such as make a melon slushy after you freeze them a bit.  You can also make healthy melon popsicles.  You can freeze them, then blend in a Vitamix or high-powered blender until smooth, and place them in a popsicle mold.  I hope you incorporate some melons into your diet.  They are closely related to cucumbers, which are also very hydrating.  Stay hydrated and protect your immune support with these varieties of melon.
